NFL FLAG Ventura County follows a structured team formation process based on skill level and experience to ensure fair and competitive play. The process varies by location and division.
Simi Valley Team Formation
Teams in Simi Valley are assigned based on skill level:
1. Gold Division (Advanced – Full Draft Process)
For experienced and competitive players.
Coaches draft all players – buddy requests are not a priority.
Once Gold division teams are formed, remaining players move to White Division.
2. White Division (Intermediate – Partial Draft & Random Selection)
After Gold is filled, White teams are formed.
Coaches may request up to 3–4 players per team from the remaining player pool.
The rest of the players are randomly assigned based on skill level.
Not all buddy requests can be accommodated.
Players can move up from Blue to White with a coach recommendation.
3. Blue Division (Beginner – Random Selection)
For new and less experienced players.
After White teams are formed, remaining players are assigned randomly based on skill level.
Buddy requests are considered but not guaranteed.
4. BT Division (Bring Your Own Team – *If Available)
Occasionally, a Bring Your Own Team (BT) Division is offered for pre-formed teams.
If a BT division is created, teams may stay together for one season but will likely enter the draft the following season to ensure fairness.

Why Different Skill Levels?
Dividing teams by skill level allows:
Beginners to develop confidence before moving up.
Intermediate players to improve without overwhelming competition.
